First Christmas Card Arrival
It’s usually a card from the Carter Center, the humanitarian foundation of President Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter, that begins our receipt of Christmas or Hanukkah as well as secular holiday greeting cards to our home.
I like to decorate with the cards and enjoy each new card received. Owen loves to pour over them too.
It’s been MANY years since the first card was not from the Carter...

– Richard Barrett, leader of the Nationalist Movement, a white supremacist group based in Learned, Miss., on the election of Barack Obama. But he’s the “moderate” supremacist. Apparently.

Parking
For the part four days, we’ve celebrated the Thanksgiving week with my in-laws and grandparents-in-law from Indiana-Illinois-now Missouri.
This side of the family is very Republican and we don’t talk politics together. My grandfather-in-law has told me repeatedly that anything that Jesse Jackson and Ted Kennedy are for, he is against. Too bad!
When I first met the...

Jeremy and I are not animal people.
We used to be cat lovers, but we aren’t looking for any more pet owner reponsibility.
Of all the Websites and features Jeremy has introduced me to, I have only loved two:
Dooce.com, about a liberal ex-Mormon mother in Utah AND…
Icanhascheezeburger.com, about kitties in funny situations.
I love this one and can’t stop thinking about it.

Cabinet Appointments - Keep 'Em Coming!
Are you loving these cabinet appointments as much as me?
We shushed Owen in the kitchen over breakfast as NPR reported the appointment of Eric Holder for Attorney General and I sat up straight and turned up the car radio to hear about Tom Daschle’s appointment as Health and Human Services Secretary.
This is like Christmas!
Maybe Just a Quick Protest
I am not going to count last Saturday, because that was my only child’s fourth birthday party and we were as busy then as I have been all year. So it was really today, the second Saturday after the election that I got the feeling of being outside the campaign bubble and planned for a non-political weekend. No block walking, no campaign video shoots or editing and no meetings!
We all slept in...
Precinct by precinct election returns map →
A friend sent this to me, noting he wasn’t trying to compete.
That’s good, since my DPI is 12 points higher!
How’d your precinct fare?
Adding insult to injury
I have caught Jeremy’s cold and feel bad.
This morning Jeremy complimented my blouse and told Owen that Mommy looked pretty.
“No,” Owen said, “I don’t love it.”
Thanks, fellas!
Head shaker
Throughout the Democratic primary, I got dozens of calls and e-mails that were very ugly anti-Obama and anti-Clinton. The worse were about Obama.
Yes, I lead one Democratic organization and serve as VP of another larger group, but no, I do not shape campaigns and I am not asked for my opinion by Hillary or Barack, therefore I am unable to pass your messages on to them.
I was so glad that most...
California's Gay Marriage Ban →
I’m terribly disappointed in the success of California’s proposition 8.
This video was a anti-prop 8 ad and it equates a ban on gay marriage to a ban on interracial marriage. That equation is 100% appropriate.
I think this is really a generational issue and that in time, hopefully sooner than later, gay marriage will be as accepted as interracial marriage.
Post-Election Personal Note to CGS Democrats
Last night, after working my precinct as an alternate election judge, I ran home, put on a dress, grabbed my husband, stopped in at the Carroll High School Young Democrats returns watch party and headed to the Fort Worth Hilton for the Tarrant County Democratic Party’s Victory Party. We tried to get into the ballroom, but were stopped by new friends I had made this year - a man who served...
I am so ready
My lunch and several other snacks are packed to sustain me for tomorrow.
I will be at my polling location at 6:00 a.m. to work as the alternate election judge at least a 14-hour day with a Republican election judge and clerks he selected. I hope that he and they are fair.
I am so ready to fast-forward 24 hours from now to see if what I have worked for this year and last has come together...
Help Us Election Day!
Election Center, 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m.
The Mid-Cities Democrats club has secured a meeting room at the Marriott in Bedford that will be our Election Center on November 4th, handling GOTV with phone banking, driving voters to the polls, trouble shooting for Election Judges and more.
Call Miki Hawkins at 817.545.6617 to volunteer and then come out election day and we will plug you in.
