"Open Letter to God" from Michael Moore →
Friend just sent me this. Posting here in case you haven’t read it. Owen was very small when Katrina happened and Jeremy and I debated posting our home as open to Katrina victims seeking temporary shelter in N. Texas. We didn’t and I wish we had. My brother and his lady are up this weekend from Houston, just by coincidence. We’ve spent some time watching Gustav. My grandmother...

In French Language Newspapers and Hawking T's
Although I took French in high school and college, I have turned to girlfriends to translate an article by Stéphanie Fontenoy entitled “The Promises of Barack Obama” in La Libre Belgique. Stéphanie interviewed me Thursday night after Barack Obama accepted our party’s nomination for President. Kris translates this: Dans cette marée humaine bigarrée de 80000 personnes, deux...

McCain's VP pick Palin
My first thought was “Sarah who?” I honestly don’t have an opinion about John McCain’s pick for VP. But my friends and acquaintances sure do. Here’s what some of them are posting and e-mailing to me: New airport friend Paul Begala, via K. - Is McCain out of his mind? From J. - After today, it’s time for John McCain to go to a nursing home. Of course, that...

Let the parties continue!
Headed to the LBJ Birthday 100th Birthday Party for Chris Utchell, candidate for State Rep. 91. I am excited to see my Democratic friends from the Mid-Cities again. Brother Chuck and his lady Laura are up for the holiday weekend and they are coming along too.

Jerry Smith
Jeremy’s granddad Jerry died today. My mother-in-law told me when she and Owen picked me up at the airport. Jerry had prostate cancer and had good and bad days, 15 years after his diagnosis - all bad, though recently. Jerry was a retired union man at a Ford plant near Indianapolis, where Jeremy is from. Jerry was the only parent/grandparent in our combined families that agreed with...

My Final Day at the DNC
Just like the last day of camp, when you don’t want to go home and leave all your new friends behind, this morning is tough on us delegates. But knowing what we have at home - our spouses, kiddos, friends and lots and LOTS of work to do to help Barack Obama become our next President eases the transition back into the world outside the DNC. Yesterday was a less busy day for me, but of course...

On the Invesco Floor
Wow are we close! The Texas Delegation has GREAT seating here at Invesco! They didn’t seat us in the Aurora section of the stadium. I rode the light rail to downtown earlier to meet a friend I met at Democracy for America candidate/activist training in Austin. We walked the 16th Street Mall and looked for bobble heads (success!) and Obama earrings (not yet). My friend’s friend...

My 3rd Day at the DNC
This morning’s Texas Delegation Breakfast, the last of the convention left us all ready to go home and work! Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee had the room on their feet, telling us the dream of an Obama presidency is “a dream we have in sight, but it is a dream out of reach if Democrats don’t get to work!” Everyone is still buzzing about Joe Biden, his son Beau and John Kerry from...

Back at the Hotel
Back at the hotel at 2:15am and checking e-mails from home. Attended another “Party With a Purpose” event, “A Season for Change Reception” with headliner Soulchild. I was one of three white women in a venue of likely 200 fans.

More Daily Show
Leaving Pepsi Center, saw the rest of “The Daily Show” crew, except Samantha Bee. Asked for a photo and Aasif Mandvi says, “Hey, I took a photo with you yesterday!” Ha! He remembered me then said I had blogged about it. Yes, I had. Their producer said no more photos, so I took one step forward, handed over the camera and got the shot anyway!

Dem friend Brian Rhea just called, 9pm CT, saying I was shown on KERA, typing on my iPhone. Anyone record the convention tonight on PBS affiliate TV? If so, e-mail me! Kathleen@23hd.com

Forgive giant block posts
When I cross-post between this blog and the Star-Telegram, I have to use the mail program, rather than this app. It results in giant block posts that I cannot correct until hours later back at the Red Lion. Ug!

Waiting for Biden
So Texas didn’t get to announce our roll call. It was 124 Obama, 96 Clinton and 7 non-votes. I walked the floor and it’s a different energy down there for the “swing states”. I walked past New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine for a photo and he accepted and told the photographer, a male Texas delegate, “”I’d much rather have a picture with her than you!”...

Family status
Just got off the phone with Owen and my mother. My mother reports my grandmother is in the hospital again, but went after she had a shower and checked her mail instead of when she was told to go, so she must be somewhat OK. Owen says he is playing cars and tinker toys with Mimi and he is having fun. I told him I love him and he said, “what…OK…BYE, Mama!” I love...

Back at the Pepsi Center
Caught up with a few kids and headed down to the Pepsi Center. Purchased lots of goodies for friends at home - lucky them. And I recorded a YouTube segment on why I nominate Barack Obama. Cool. The Presidential Nominating Process is underway!

My 2nd Day at the DNC
An hour ago, while waiting in line for this morning’s credentials, I was asked what the high point and low poing of the convention was for me. That was easy - the low point is the location of this hotel and the high point was hearing Sen. Hillary Clinton speak for Barack Obama and tell the country why she will support his campaign. She asked her delegates if they voted for her, or the...

On the way to the DNC...
I really enjoyed seeing “The Second City” troupe at the Denver Performing Arts Center. Loved the IRA skit (I’m Irish) and the one about the straight man falling in love with Al Gore and his recent work on the climate crisis, because “the hottest years on record are the ones when you’re around,” the actor tells his Gore glossy 8x11. Ha! Then to the National...
