2009 - The Year in Review

What a year it has been! We Mid-Cities Democrats began 2009 with the Inauguration Luncheon - a sold out event, which raised money for our Jim Wright Scholarship, one of the few Inauguration celebrations in Tarrant County and earned us prime-time news coverage for two days in a row.

The year ended with the North Texas Salute to Speaker Jim Wright - another sold out event of nearly 200 Democrats honoring Speaker Jim Wright, which raised thousands of dollars for the Tarrant County Democratic Party and Mid-Cities Democrats, and completed the year’s Jim Wright Scholarship funding.

In between we cleaned our community quarterly, offered support to area Young Democrats high school clubs, stood strong against the Voter ID bill, fed the hungry in our community, partnered with Organizing for America to make thousands of calls promoting real health care reform and introduced our members to the leading candidates for the 2010 statewide races, by hosting Hank Gilbert, Barbara Ann Radnofsky, John Sharp, Bill White among others.

We raised Democratic visibility, we served our community, and we raised thousands of dollars for Democratic candidates for 2010. What a year!

I offer my personal thanks to the 2009 Mid-Cities Democrats Executive Board and the boards of our city groups. And thank you members for your generous giving of time and money.

It has been my pleasure to serve as president this year and I look forward to working with the 2010 Executive Board to continue our successes.
